Using Drama, Music, and Video

This post is from a course that I took. I had to make blog posts for the course and I decided to move the posts over here when the course finished.

I do not have a lot to say about the articles on using drama, music, and video in the language classroom. I agree with the idea of using all of these techniques to teach ANYTHING, not just language. I believe that memorizing dialogue and lyrics can be very beneficial to the language learner. I have participated as a learner in drama clubs in French and Japanese, and I did a great deal of karaoke when I was first learning Japanese, and I certainly felt, first hand, the benefits of both activities. I am also currently teaching an English vocabulary enrichment class to Grade 3, 4, and 5 students that makes extensive use of videos. All of these techniques make the language come alive and can cement the more traditional forms of learning that may happen in the classroom.

(I am leaving out the citations on purpose as I do not have any specific comments about any of the articles.)
